When Everything Feels Shaky

 

Life has a way of revealing what we have built upon.

 

A diagnosis.

 

A loss.

 

A broken relationship.

 

An unexpected change.

 

A financial problem.

 

A disappointment.

 

A prayer that seems unanswered.

 

Suddenly, things we thought were secure begin to move.

 

Hebrews speaks about a Kingdom that cannot be shaken.

 

When temporary things begin shifting, we need something stronger than circumstances to stand upon.

 

We need truth.

 

Truth #1: God Is Still God

 

Circumstances do not change God's identity.

 

He does not become less sovereign because life feels chaotic.

 

He does not become less powerful because we feel weak.

 

He does not become less faithful because we do not understand what He is doing.

 

God remains God.

 

Malachi 3:6 says:

 

“For I am the LORD, I change not.”

 

Our circumstances may change dramatically.

 

His character does not.

 

Truth #2: God's Word Is Still True

 

Jesus prayed:

 

“Thy word is truth.”

 

Culture changes.

 

Opinions change.

 

Popular ideas change.

 

But believers need an authority deeper than whatever happens to be popular today.

 

Scripture gives us a foundation outside ourselves.

 

We do not change truth according to our feelings.

 

We allow truth to shape how we understand our feelings.

 

Truth #3: God Is Still Faithful

 

Faithfulness is part of God's character.

 

That means His faithfulness is not dependent upon how faithful other people have been to us.

 

People may disappoint.

 

Promises may be broken.

 

Relationships may change.

 

God remains faithful.

 

“Great is thy faithfulness.”

 

That declaration appears in Lamentations—in the middle of profound grief.

 

Faithfulness does not require easy circumstances to remain true.

 

Truth #4: You Are Not Alone

 

God repeatedly promises His presence.

 

“I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

 

There may be seasons when you feel alone.

 

That feeling deserves honesty.

 

But feelings are not always reliable reporters of spiritual reality.

 

You can feel alone while still being deeply held by God.

 

Truth #5: Grace Is Still Available

 

Failure can convince us that we have reached the limit of God's patience.

 

But Scripture tells us:

 

“My grace is sufficient for thee.”

 

Grace does not make sin irrelevant.

 

Grace makes repentance, forgiveness, restoration, and transformation possible.

 

Your worst moment does not possess more power than the grace of Christ.

 

Truth #6: Jesus Has Not Changed

 

Hebrews 13:8 gives us one of Scripture's simplest anchors:

 

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

 

The Jesus who showed compassion still has compassion.

 

The Jesus who forgave still forgives.

 

The Jesus who restored still restores.

 

The Jesus who saved still saves.

 

The Jesus who conquered the grave is still alive.

 

Truth #7: This Is Not the End of the Story

 

Christian hope reaches beyond the present moment.

 

Revelation points toward a day when God will wipe away every tear.

 

Death will not have the final word.

 

Pain will not have the final word.

 

Evil will not have the final word.

 

Jesus does.

 

Whatever chapter you are living today, believers know something about the ending:

 

God wins.

 

Build on the Rock

 

Jesus describes two builders.

 

Both build houses.

 

Both experience storms.

 

The difference is the foundation.

 

One builds upon sand.

 

The other builds upon rock.

 

The storm reveals what was underneath.

 

The goal of biblical truth is not simply knowing more information.

 

It is building differently because of what we know.

 

When Feelings and Truth Disagree

 

Feelings are real.

 

But they are not infallible.

 

You may feel forgotten.

 

Truth says God remembers.

 

You may feel abandoned.

 

Truth says He will never leave you.

 

You may feel condemned.

 

Truth says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

 

You may feel hopeless.

 

Truth says Christ is our living hope.

 

Faith does not require denying feelings.

 

It means refusing to give feelings authority they were never designed to possess.

 

Know What Cannot Be Shaken

 

When life shakes, return to what remains.

 

God is good.

 

God is faithful.

 

God is present.

 

God's Word is true.

 

Christ is sufficient.

 

Grace is available.

 

You belong to Him.

 

And your hope extends beyond this present moment.

 

You may not know what tomorrow will bring.

 

But you can know the One who will still be God when tomorrow arrives.

 

Build there.

 

Stand there.

 

Return there whenever life begins to shake.

 

These are the truths that hold when everything else moves.
