Twelve Years Is a Long Time

 

This woman’s suffering was not brief.

 

Twelve years can change the way a person thinks.

 

Hopes.

 

Prays.

 

Trusts.

 

She had spent her resources seeking relief and had not found it.

 

Yet when she heard about Jesus, hope stirred again.

 

Sometimes faith begins not because we feel strong, but because we have reached the end of every other option.

 

She Pressed Through the Crowd

 

The crowd could have become an excuse.

 

She was physically weakened.

 

Socially marginalized.

 

Likely accustomed to being kept at a distance.

 

But desperation made closeness more important than comfort.

 

She pressed forward.

 

There are moments when drawing near to Jesus requires us to move past:

 

Fear.

 

Shame.

 

Disappointment.

 

Embarrassment.

 

Other people’s opinions.

 

Our own history.

 

Faith says:

 

I still need to get close to Him.

 

Near Is Not the Same as Reaching

 

Many people were around Jesus that day.

 

Only one touch caused Him to stop.

 

The disciples were confused because everyone was pressing against Him.

 

But this woman reached with intention.

 

There is a difference between being around the things of God and intentionally seeking Him.

 

We can attend church.

 

Hear sermons.

 

Know Scripture.

 

Participate in ministry.

 

And still need to ask:

 

Am I actually drawing near to Jesus?

 

Jesus Stopped

 

Jesus was on His way to Jairus’s house.

 

A little girl was dying.

 

The situation was urgent.

 

Yet Jesus stopped for this woman.

 

That matters.

 

She was not an interruption.

 

She was seen.

 

Jesus does not operate with the hurried priorities we often do.

 

He noticed the person others might have overlooked.

 

“Who Touched Me?”

 

Jesus knew power had gone out from Him.

 

The woman came forward trembling.

 

She told Him the whole truth.

 

Then Jesus spoke words she may have needed almost as much as physical healing:

 

“Daughter…”

 

He did not identify her by her condition.

 

Not unclean.

 

Not sick.

 

Not the woman with the issue of blood.

 

Daughter.

 

Healing reached beyond her body.

 

Jesus restored identity.

 

Desperation Can Become Direction

 

Desperation itself is not always spiritual.

 

It can make us panic.

 

Grasp.

 

Control.

 

Run.

 

But when desperation drives us toward Jesus, it can become holy direction.

 

Instead of asking:

 

How do I fix everything?

 

We begin asking:

 

How do I get closer to Christ here?

 

Draw Near

 

Hebrews 4:16 tells believers to:

 

“Come boldly unto the throne of grace.”

 

Jesus is not asking wounded people to remain at a distance.

 

Come.

 

Bring the need.

 

The disappointment.

 

The question.

 

The years of waiting.

 

The thing you have tried to fix yourself.

 

Bring it close.

 

The Power Was Never in the Garment

 

The woman touched Jesus’ clothing, but the fabric itself was not magical.

 

Her hope was in Jesus.

 

We must be careful not to turn methods, objects, formulas, or rituals into substitutes for Christ Himself.

 

The power is not in finding the perfect technique.

 

The power is in the One we are drawing near to.

 

Get Close to Jesus

 

Maybe you have been carrying something for a long time.

 

Maybe disappointment has made you cautious.

 

Maybe you are tired of hoping.

 

Maybe the crowd feels too thick.

 

This woman’s story reminds us:

 

Press through.

 

Reach again.

 

Tell Him the whole truth.

 

Draw near.

 

Because sometimes the breakthrough is not simply that Jesus changes the circumstance.

 

Sometimes the deepest transformation comes when, in the middle of the crowd, you discover:

 

He sees you.

 

He stops for you.

 

He calls you by a better name.
