Growth does not happen all at once.
First, something is planted.
Then roots begin to deepen.
Growth becomes visible.
Eventually, fruit appears.
Rooted & Rising: 31 Days of Growing in Grace is a Scripture-centered Christian devotional designed to help you grow deeper in faith, become more firmly rooted in God’s truth, and recognize the spiritual growth He is cultivating in your life.
Using The JOURNEY Method™, this 31-day devotional walks through four stages of growth:
Planted • Rooted • Blooming • Fruitful
Each stage invites you to slow down, reflect on Scripture, examine your spiritual life, and take practical steps toward becoming more grounded, mature, and fruitful in Christ.

Planted
Every season of growth begins somewhere.
A seed may look small.
Hidden.
Unimpressive.
But something has started.
The planted season is about beginnings.
Receiving truth.
Allowing God to prepare the soil.
Taking the first steps of faith.
You may not see much yet.
That does not mean nothing is happening.
Rooted
Visible growth depends on hidden roots.
Colossians 2:7 tells believers to be:
“Rooted and built up in him.”
Roots develop stability.
They anchor us when circumstances change.
They help us draw strength from something deeper than emotions, opinions, or temporary situations.
A rooted faith does not mean life never shakes.
It means you know where to hold when it does.
Blooming
Eventually, growth begins to show.
Blooming can look like:
Greater patience.
Healthier boundaries.
More consistent prayer.
Deeper trust.
Different responses.
Greater peace.
Growing confidence in God.
Spiritual growth is not always dramatic.
Sometimes blooming looks like realizing you no longer respond the way you once did.
That matters.
Fruitful
Jesus teaches that healthy branches produce fruit.
Fruitfulness is not about becoming impressive.
It is about becoming useful in God’s hands.
Love.
Joy.
Peace.
Patience.
Kindness.
Goodness.
Faithfulness.
Gentleness.
Self-control.
Fruit develops because the branch remains connected to the source.
Growth Takes Time
We often want immediate transformation.
God frequently works through process.
Seeds do not become trees overnight.
Roots need time.
Branches need seasons.
Fruit develops gradually.
Spiritual growth works much the same way.
Do not despise slow growth.
Consistency often produces what intensity cannot sustain.
Stop Comparing Your Growth
Comparison can make healthy growth feel inadequate.
Someone else may appear farther along.
They may be blooming while you still feel planted.
But you do not know what season God is working through in their life.
Different seasons do not mean different levels of value.
Your responsibility is not to grow like someone else.
It is to remain faithful in the soil where God has planted you.
Pruning Is Part of Growth
Jesus teaches in John 15 that fruitful branches are pruned.
Pruning can feel like loss.
Something is removed.
A habit.
A relationship.
A distraction.
A pattern.
An expectation.
But pruning is not always punishment.
Sometimes God removes what is limiting future growth.
Rooted Before Rising
We often want to rise quickly.
God may be more concerned with how deeply we are rooted first.
Strong growth requires strong roots.
That means time spent in:
Scripture.
Prayer.
Truth.
Obedience.
Community.
Surrender.
Those hidden practices become the foundation for visible growth.
Rise Into What God Is Growing
You are not expected to manufacture spiritual growth through sheer willpower.
God is already at work.
Your part is to remain connected.
Stay in His Word.
Respond to His leading.
Allow Him to correct.
Allow Him to prune.
Keep showing up.
Keep growing.
Thirty-one days will not complete the journey.
But they can help deepen the roots.
Strengthen the habits.
Shift the thinking.
Create space for God to continue His work.
You have been planted for a reason.
Now become rooted.
Begin blooming.
Grow fruitful.
And rise into the life God is cultivating in you.
