He Had to Go

 

John specifically tells us that Jesus had to go through Samaria.

 

There were other routes.

 

But there was a woman at a well.

 

Jesus intentionally entered a place marked by cultural tension and religious division.

 

What others might have avoided, Jesus walked directly toward.

 

Jesus Already Knew

 

Before the woman understood who Jesus was, He already knew her story.

 

Her relationships.

 

Her history.

 

Her questions.

 

Her needs.

 

And knowing all of it did not cause Jesus to walk away.

He spoke with her.

 

He offered her living water.

 

This encounter reminds us that being fully known by Jesus does not mean being automatically rejected by Him.

 

Living Water

 

The woman came looking for ordinary water.

 

Jesus offered something deeper:

 

“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.”

 

Jesus recognized a thirst no well could satisfy.

 

We can spend years attempting to satisfy spiritual needs with relationships, success, approval, possessions, distractions, or control.

 

Eventually we become thirsty again.

 

Jesus offers something the world cannot provide.

 

Spirit and Truth

 

The conversation eventually turns toward worship.

 

The woman focuses on where people should worship.

 

Jesus redirects the conversation toward how.

 

True worshipers will worship:

 

“in the Spirit and in truth.”

 

Worship is not merely about location, tradition, or outward appearance.

 

God desires hearts genuinely turned toward Him.

 

Leave the Jar

 

One of the most beautiful details appears almost quietly:

 

“Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town.”

 

The very thing she came to collect is left behind.

 

She has discovered something more important.

 

The woman who came to the well becomes the woman telling others about Jesus.

 

Her testimony is simple:

 

Come and see.

 

She does not have every theological answer.

 

She simply tells people what happened when she encountered Christ.

 

And people come.

 

The Fields Are Ripe

 

While the woman is bringing people toward Jesus, He tells His disciples:

 

“Open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”

 

The disciples saw Samaria.

 

Jesus saw people ready to hear.

 

Sometimes divine appointments happen in places we would rather avoid, through people we might overlook, and in interruptions we did not schedule.

 

Who Is in Your Samaria?

 

This story invites us to ask:

 

Who have I overlooked?

 

What barriers have I allowed to remain?

 

Where might Jesus be asking me to go?

 

And could the interruption in front of me actually be a divine appointment?

 

Jesus had to go through Samaria.

 

There was a woman waiting at a well.

 

And one encounter with Jesus transformed an ordinary trip for water into a testimony that reached an entire community.
